We placed an open call to our NEDC members to let us know about their runs for Democratic County Central Committee on March 3, 2020. Here are our members who are running:
Theresa Montano, AD51
I am a long-time resident of Northeast Los Angeles, both my children attended public schools in the community, I completed my undergraduate college education in this very community. As your neighbor and lifetime Democrat, I also am concerned with issues of homelessness, increasing gentrification, affordable and accessible health care, and neighborhood safety. As such, I am prepared to work for you and represent your concerns/issues on the Central Committee of the Democratic Party. I am a hard worker and my record as an educational activist is a testament to my work on issues pertaining to public education.
As an educator/professor of more than 30 years, my activist work has focused on issues of educational justice. As I write this short paragraph, I can’t help but to acknowledge how corporations are moving to consolidate power in public education and wage deliberate wars against teachers’ unions. A sad commentary on U.S. political, public schools have become commodities tied to marketplace educational reform. Though issues of public education are of most importance to me, I recognize the intersectionality of education, social and political issues and I believe I can represent your interests in all of these areas.
Mary Rose Ortega, AD 51
